The Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, has charged youths in the State to remain worthy ambassadors of Oyo State wherever they find themselves in the world. 

Professor Babatunde gave the charge while receiving members of the Oyo State Youth Parliament (Third Assembly) during a courtesy visit at the SSG’s Conference Room, Secretariat, Ibadan.

He said the vision of the Youth Parliament aligns with that of the present administration, particularly its commitment to improving the welfare and future prospects of young people in the State.

He urged members of the parliament to conduct themselves as exemplary representatives of Oyo State across the country and beyond, noting that the future of the State depends largely on the quality and commitment of its youths.

Professor Babatunde added further that unity and togetherness remain essential in achieving the collective goal of youth development and nation-building, describing young people as the future leaders whose capacities must be deliberately strengthened.

He said the present administration in the State under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde is empowering youths through various capacity-building programmes and digital skills initiatives.

He said, “this  Government will continue to equip young people with relevant skills in emerging fields such as machine learning, blockchain analysis and other digital technologies to prepare them for future opportunities in the global economy.

The Secretary to the State Government  advised Youth Parliament to prepare a comprehensive proposal detailing its programmes, needs and areas requiring collaboration and forward it through the appropriate channels for Government consideration.

He also encouraged the youth legislators to strengthen their relationship with the Oyo State House of Assembly to deepen their understanding of legislative processes and democratic governance.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Oyo State Youth Parliament, Rt.Hon. Oyekola Oluwatobi, introduced members of the newly inaugurated Third Assembly and appealed to the State Government for continued support and collaboration to enable the parliament to effectively contribute to youth development and good governance in the State.

Retired top officials in Oyo State have commended Governor Seyi Makinde for what they described as worker- and pensioner-friendly policies that have improved the welfare of both serving and retired civil servants.

The commendation was given by the Association of Retired Executive Secretaries and General Managers of the Oyo State Government during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Professor. Musibau Babatunde, at the Government Secretariat, Ibadan.

The Chairman of the Association, Barrister Olusola Orobode, lauded the administration for the regular payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities, noting that the policy had brought relief and stability to retirees across the State.

He also praised the Government for its developmental strides in critical sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and security, which he said have positioned Oyo State as an attractive destination for investment.

Orobode described the administration as responsive to the needs of workers and senior citizens, adding that the consistent welfare initiatives have boosted confidence in governance.

He noted further that members of the association, despite being retired, remain active and are willing to contribute their experience and expertise to support Government programmes through advisory and consultancy roles.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government appreciated the visit and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees, stressing that their contributions remain vital to the state’s development.

Professor Babatunde disclosed that efforts were underway to engage retired professionals in strategic areas through committee assignments and policy formulation, in order to harness their wealth of experience for improved service delivery.

He assured the association of the Government’s openness to constructive advice, noting that inclusive governance remains key to sustainable development.

The visit featured the presentation of a congratulatory card to the SSG and a reaffirmation of the association’s support for the State Government’s programmes.

The Oyo State Government has reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the welfare and empowerment of women across the State.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde Adetunji, made this known during a courtesy visit by the women’s wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Professor Adetunji stated that the present administration under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde remains committed to policies and programmes that promote the welfare and advancement of women in Oyo State.

He urged women in the State to work collectively towards common goals, emphasizing the importance of organizing training programmes and symposiums that would further educate and empower women to take leadership roles in society.

According to him, “the Makinde-led administration has consistently given priority to women’s development across the State”.

Adetunji also encouraged the NLC women’s wing to continue promoting the government’s achievements in governance across every part of the State so that the administration’s good work would be sustained in the Pacesetter State.

“Women are increasingly taking up more seats in the National Assembly, State Assemblies, as Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Local Government Administration in the Country,”

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde will, on Tuesday, preside over the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in the State’s Civil/Public Service.

In a statement issued and signed in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital by the Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, mni hinted that the ceremony will take place on Tuesday by 10:00 a.m at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The event marks a significant administrative step in strengthening the leadership structure of the State Civil Service.

At the ceremony, the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are expected to formally take the oath of office before the Governor.

The appointments are part of ongoing efforts by Governor Makinde administration to enhance efficiency and service delivery within the public service of Oyo State and for the overall development of the State.

The Oyo State Government has debunked a misleading report circulating from an interest group concerning the payment of retirees’ gratuities between 2015 and 2018.

The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, described the report as a misrepresentation of his discussion with the group.

According to the Commissioner, during a meeting with the group led by Comrade Ojekunle Tope, he clearly explained that the present administration of Governor Seyi Makinde inherited unpaid gratuities dating back to 2008.

He clarified that the Governor commenced payment of the backlog from 2008 upon assumption of office, and the process has remained consistent and ongoing.

Prof. Adelabu further disclosed that following the increase in the monthly allocation for gratuity payments from ₦1 billion to ₦3 billion, effective January 2026, the Ministry of Establishments and Training has intensified efforts and re-strategised its payment structure to accelerate disbursement.

He revealed that in January 2026 alone, over 500 beneficiaries received their gratuities, including pensioners whose entitlements became due in 2019.

The Commissioner explained that retirees who qualified for payment in 2019 but are yet to receive their gratuities may be experiencing documentation or processing challenges, which the Ministry is working to resolve.

He appreciated pensioners for their continued understanding and support, urging them to remain patient while assuring that all legitimate outstanding gratuities will be paid in due course.

The Oyo State Government has convened a high-level stakeholders’ meeting to address the persistent rise in the prices of day-old chicks, a trend threatening the profitability of poultry farmers and raising concerns over food security in the State.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting with poultry farmers, hatchery operators and other key industry players at the Ministry’s Conference Room.

He said the engagement was aimed at finding practical and sustainable solutions to the recurring price increases.

Olaleye expressed concern that despite the various interventions and investments made by the Oyo State Government in the Agricultural sector, the cost of day-old chicks has continued to climb, placing additional financial strain on poultry farmers and negatively impacting food production.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening the poultry industry, describing it as a critical component of the State’s food security and economic development agenda.

He stressed that achieving sustainable growth in the sector requires collective responsibility and cooperation among all stakeholders.

Olaleye therefore appealed to hatchery operators and marketers to consider a downward review of prices to complement Government efforts aimed at boosting local poultry production, stabilizing the market and making poultry products more affordable for residents.

In his remarks, the Vice Chairman, Poultry Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, Mr. Kayode Okunowo, commended the Government for its proactive steps toward curbing arbitrary price hikes.

He urged the State to institutionalize periodic stakeholders’ meetings to ensure continuous dialogue and lasting solutions within the sector.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the hatchery stakeholders, Rev. Tunde Owolabi, called on the Government to intensify public sensitization on the nutritional and economic benefits of regular consumption of chicken and eggs.

He further appealed for supportive measures to help day-old chick operators manage the heavy debts currently affecting players across the value chain, pledging stakeholders’ renewed commitment to collaborate with the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde in advancing food security in the State.

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has sworn-in the newly-appointed Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, assuring that his administration would finish strong by delivering on its commitment to good governance and sustainable development. Speaking after the administration of oath of office and signing of the oath of office book, the Governor said that Babatunde, a Professor of Economics at the University of Ibadan, has been with him for years, and understands the working of the Government. He noted that the professor’s appointment as SSG was based on his experience and not religion or geo-political zone that he belongs to, charging him to use his experience to ensure the smooth running of the system and to weld the administration together. He mentioned that Prof. Babatunde was one of the few people that supported and believed in his political vision before he became the Governor of the State in 2019. Governor Makinde also eulogised Babatunde for his effort in leading the team that designed the Oyo State Roadmap for Accelerated Development (2019-2023), despite not having any political interest. Speaking on speculations surrounding the removal of the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Prof Olanike Adeyemo, the Governor said it was a routine decision, noting that the former SSG didn’t do anything wrong. He charged the new SSG to foster unity within the Government team, while urging all officials to avoid internal conflicts and distractions and to remain focused on the mandate given by the people of Oyo State. He said: “Thank you for your commitment to Oyo State. “Let me also say thank you to our traditional rulers for your support, because you are major stakeholders. “People have been saying to us that, well, you have started well and are doing well and I felt that is not the end of the equation. Though we started well, we must finish strong. “People have been asking me what the former SSG did that made me to relieve her of her appointment. Well, she did not do anything. It’s just that the cycle is seasonal. It is like you are in a farm, and in the beginning, you need people who can plant. After everything has germinated and produced fruits, you need harvesters. So, that is just it.”

Talking about succession, Makinde said,

“We will put a proposal to the Oyo State people on how to continue on this trajectory. If they don’t like it, they can tell us they want a different trajectory. But I will prepare a team that I know that, at the end of the day, with me not being on this seat, Oyo State can continue to thrive. “So, we have seen that we can put a team together. These are experienced people, because they have spent close to seven years together. This is one appointment that its foundation is about finishing strong.”
